2015 Football Banquet

(San Diego, Calif.) - At the end-of-the-season USD Football Awards Banquet held today on the campus of USD, freshman quarterback Anthony Lawrence (La Mesa, Calif.) was named the team's Most Valuable Player for the 2015 season. Lawrence, the PFL Offensive Freshman of the Year, guided the Toreros to a 9-2 overall record and to a share of the PFL Championship with a 7-1 record. He led the PFL in passing efficiency (153.5 rating) after completing 188-of-295 passes (63.7%) for 2,392 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Junior cornerback Jamal Agnew (San Diego, Calif.) was tabbed the team's Defensive Most Valuable Player. He finished with 30 tackles on the year (23 solo), while finishing with a team-best 15 passes defended (4 interceptions, 11 pass breakups). Junior wide receiver Brian Riley (Rancho Bernardo, Calif.) was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player. He hauled in 44 receptions for a team-best 782 yards and 8 touchdowns. He averaged 17.8 yards per reception and 71.1 yards per game.

Additional awards were handed out to sophomore linebacker Max Michaels (Poway, Calif.) - the Dr. James B. Orwig Scholar-Athlete Award; sophomore tight end Mason Burnett (St. Peters, Mo.) - the Kevin Briscoe Special Teams Player of the Year; senior running back Dallas Kessman (Mission Viejo, Calif.) - the Dave Adolph "Do You Love Football" Award for Offense; junior cornerback Devyn Bryant (San Diego, Calif.) - the Dave Adoph "Do You Love Football" Award for Defense; senior offensive tackle Pono Keni (Kailua, HI) - Outstanding Lineman Award for Offense; sophomore defensive end Jonathan Petersen (Poway, Calif.) - Outstanding Lineman Award for Defense; sophomore tight end Ross Dwelley (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) and sophomore offensive guard Miles McArdle (Napa, Calif..) - Most Improved Offensive Player; sophomore linebacker Max Michaels (Poway, Calif.) -- Most Improved Defensive Player; freshman linebacker Marcus Vaivao (Gilbert, Ariz.) - Most Outstanding 1st Year Player; senior running back Chris Campano (San Diego, Calif.) - Strength Coach's Award; freshman tight end Kevin Summers (Santa Clarita, Calif.) - Offensive Scout Player of the Year; and freshman defensive lineman Connor Spencer (Boulder, Colo.) - Defensive Scout Player of the Year.

Additionally, those Toreros that earned All-PFL honors and PFL All-Academic honors were recognized, as well as USD's fifteen seniors. The 2015 USD Highlight Film was shown and closed out the program.
