League-best 12 Toreros named to All-PFL Teams

(San Diego, CA) - A league-best twelve USD Toreros were named to the 20th edition of the All-Pioneer Football League squads, including six players to the 2012 All-PFL First Team (2 offense, 3 defense, 1 special teams). Senior center Matt Peleti (Laguna Niguel, CA) and junior fullback Lawrence Larivee (Chino Hills, CA) were selected to the First Team Offense; senior linebacker Zach Dunaj (Thousand Oaks, CA), senior defensive back Fred Obi (Inglewood, CA) and senior safety Joey York (Pleasant Hill, CA) were named to the First Team Defense; and senior kicker Ernie Collins (San Ramon, CA) was picked for the First Team Special Teams.

A total of six players earned All-PFL Second Team honors with four being selected to the offense - junior wide receiver Sam Hoekstra (Carlsbad, CA), junior quarterback Mason Mills (Coronado, CA), senior offensive lineman Mike Arnold (Wilton, CA) and junior offensive lineman Cody Tescher (Glendora, CA). Two Torero defensive ends were picked on the defensive side - juniors Steve Gargiulo (Palo Alto, CA) and Blake Oliaro (Folsom, CA).

Five Toreros were tabbed Honorable Mention for their positions - wide receiver Reggie Bell (Union City, CA), senior defensive tackle Dustin Geyer (Oak Park, CA), junior defensive back Robbie Beathard (San Diego, CA), punter Ernie Collins (San Ramon, CA), and return specialist Sam Hoekstra (Carlsbad, CA).

The Toreros won their final six games of the 2012 campaign to claim a share of their second straight Pioneer Football League title. USD finished 8-3 overall and 7-1 in the PFL along with Butler and Drake.
