HIGH SCHOOL: Chiarella comes to USD as Hawaii's number one junior player. Some of his many accomplishments include: being a three-time Hawaii State Junior Golf Association King Auto State Championship winner (2011, 2010, 2009); named the 2010 HSJGA Player of the Year; placed 10th at the 2010 Aloha PGA Hawaii State Open; had lowest scoring average in Maui Interscholastic League all four years; two-time League Individual Champion; and is a 3-time Junior America's Cup, Hawaii member (2009-2011; he tied for 11th in 2010). He won the 2011 Hali'imaile Pineapple Company Tournament of Champions over December 3-4. Chiarella won by four strokes as his 8-under par 136 total (66-70) was four strokes better than two runner-up players, as well as 8 stokes clear of Aaron Kunitomo, who signed a 2012 NLI with UCLA. The event was held at the Wailea Golf Club and played on the Emerald Course. In his first round 66, Chiarella carded 9 birdies in shooting 32-34. The win gave him entry into the Sony Skins Challenge in Oahu, an event he competed in two years ago with Matt Kuchar.

PERSONAL: Son of Reta and Albert Chiarella... Born June 2, 1994 in Honolulu... Came to USD for the golf team, the location, the weather, and for USD's strong academics... Also played basketball where he was the team second-leading scorer and named to the Maui Interscholastic League's Second Team.
