Rallied to win medalist honors at the Fresno State Lexus Classic with 69's in final two rounds (-7 under 209)... 2010-11 at USD: Named 2011 West Coast Conference Golfer of the Year... Along with winning the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, participated in all five fall tournaments... Also won the shortened Wolf Pack Classic (137; 67-70), and turned in top-10 performances at Kauai (T3rd at 212; 72-70-70), The Prestige (T6th at 214; 69-70-750 and Gene Miranda Falcon Invite (T10 at 216; 73-70-73)... Tallied four rounds of 67 during the fall, as well as a first round 69 at the Prestige.
2009-10 at USD: Named a Division I Ping All-America honorable mention by GCAA... Tied for 2nd at the NCAA Championships (208; 69-66-73)... Besides his 2nd round 66 at Nationals that set a new course record tournament record, he was also the clubhouse leader after 36 holes with a new course tournament record of 135 (previous mark was 136; Tiger Woods in 1996)... Also named to the All-WCC First Team for second straight year... Turned in another impressive season with a team-leading scoring average of 72.23 (38 rounds)... Finished in 8th place at the 2010 WCC Championships... This spring he has turned in four top-5 performances including medalist honors at the Mardi Gras Invitational where he totaled a 9-under score of 207 (64-74-690 on the challenging TPC Louisiana course (par 72; 6,931 yards), which is also the host course for the PGA Tour's Zurich Classic... Ching's 64 matched the course record for tournament play set by two PGA professionals... During the Callaway Match Play Championships in Arizona, Ching was a perfect 4-0 as USD placed 7th in the 16-team event... He was second at the USD Callaway Invitational (70-72-69) and third at the prestigious USC Collegiate Invitational where he finished at 7-under par 206 (74-68-64)... This past fall season he competed in 12 rounds finishing with a scoring average of 73.67... Shot his lowest round of the fall season, a 68, at the Kauai Collegiate Invitational while also finishing in second place in the tournament.
2008-09 at USD: Tied for 13th at Nationals with his 1-over 214 (70-68-76)... Owned team-best 71.75 stroke average heading to Nationals... Tied for 24th at the NCAA West Regionals at 214 (72-69-73)... Tied for 15th at the WCC Championships with 217 total (74-72-71)... Competed in all 40 rounds for the Toreros... Won Bay Area Shootout and also won 2 of 3 match play events at Callaway Match Play Championships... During the Fall campaign he averaged 71.53 for 15 rounds and turned in two top-10 finishes in team's last two tournaments... Tied for 8th at the Sycuan Collegiate with a 7-under 209 (68-71-70), and followed up with a tie for 4th at the Kauai Intercollegiate Invitational at 205 (69-69-67)... USD took home the Kaua'i Collegiate Invitational trophy at the Puakea Golf Course by winning by 15 strokes... Five of his fifteen rounds were sub-70.
High School: Joined the Punahou golf team his senior year after concentrating on tennis as a two-time state doubles champion... In golf, Ching won the 100th Manoa Cup, the most prestigious amateur championship locally; the Hickam Invitational, the Army Amateur and the Oahu Country Club Invitational... That is in addition to winning the ILH and stay boys' titles, and leading his team to the league and state team championships.
Personal: Born on April 1, 1990 in Honolulu, Hawaii... Parents are Steve and Kori Ching of Honolulu... Chose USD for its great weather, good golf team, and excellent education...
