He qualified for the PGA event by winning the lone amateur spot in a field of 100 players with a handicap of 0 or better, defeating his Torero coach Tim Mickelson in an 18-hole playoff... In the summer of 2009, he won the Ft. Collins qualifier to advance to US Amateur at Southern Hills... He won the qualifier by five strokes shooting 131 (68-63)... At the US Amatuer shot 72-78 (150) to finish tied with teammate Alex Ching.
2010-11 at USD: Played in all five fall tournaments... Won medalist honors at the Kauai Collegiate (208; 66-71-71)... Tied for third in two tourneys - Gene Miranda Falcon (213; 72-69-72) and Wolf Pack (140; 71-69)... Tied for 11th at Gifford Collegiate (217; 76-70-71) and tied for 15th at The Prestige at PGA West (218; 76-74-68)... Including the first two spring tournaments, owns a team-best scoring average of 68.23 (21 rounds).
2009-10 at USD: Named to the 2010 All-WCC First Team... Became just the fourth Torero to take home medalist honors at the WCC Championship - he shot 216 (73-71-72) at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo, CA... Appeared in 13 events and played a total of 39 rounds for a scoring average of 72.58... At the Wyoming Cowboy Classic played at Talking Stick North Course in Scottsdale, Wiebe won medalist honors against 130 golfers... Finished with a three-round 7-under par total of 203 (67-70-66), winning by two strokes... During the Callaway Match Play Championships in Arizona, he was a perfect 4-0 helping USD to a 7th place showing (2-2 record) in the 16-team event... Also has top-10 finishes from the USD Callaway Invitational (t-3rd at 214; 71-72-71), the Kauai Collegiate (t-6th at 210; 71-69-70) and the Wolf Pack Classic (t-7th at 211; 73-68-70)
2008-09 at USD: Top Torero at Wyoming Cowboy Classic with 5th place finish at 207 (70-69-68)... In his final round 68, recorded his first hole-in-one on the 194-yard 16th hole at Scottsdale's Talking Stick Golf Club... His 2nd round 68 at NCAA West Regionals was instrumental in USD moving up to 3rd place and advancing to Nationals for the first time ever... Lone Torero to win all three of his match play events at the Callaway Match Play Championships... Entered Nationals with a stroke average of 73.66... At Nationals totaled a 223 (+10) with scores of 78-76-69... During the Fall 2008 season he competed in the Sycuan Collegiate Invitational where he combined for a seven-over-par 223 (77-72-74).
2007-08 at USD: Played in five tournaments during his freshman campaign... Averaged 75.36 over 14 rounds... Strong showing at the USD Callaway Invitational where he finished tied for 3rd overall out of 80 golfers... Tallied a three-round score of 213 (72-71-70)... Also played well at the Barona Collegiate where he carded rounds of 70-77-70 to finish tied for 23rd out of 59 golfers.
High School:: Attended Kent Denver High School in Colorado where he played for coach Bob Austin... During his senior year he earned seven individual wins and was named First Team All-State... Broke his own personal scoring record... Finished 3rd in the CJGA Junior Series Open in June 2006... As a junior, Gunner won six individual championships with the Sun Devils in the Metropolitan Conference while setting the team scoring record.
Personal:: Born on January 1, 1989 in Englewood, CO... Parents are Mark and Cathy Wiebe of Aurora, CO... Chose USD for academic tradition, golf team and coaching staff... Also recruited by Colorado State, SJSU, Texas, Notre Dame, and Denver... His dad, Mark, owns two career PGA wins from a very successful professional career... During the 2008 summer, Gunner had the privilege of caddying for his dad at the Senior British Open and Senior U.S. Open...
