Taylor Schmidt tied for 3rd overall

(Chula Vista, Calif.) - The USD men's golf team finished in fifth place with a three-round team total of 873 (287-293-293) at the 2014 Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic that was played at the San Diego Country Club (par 72; 7,033 yards). The 22nd-ranked USC Trojans won team honors with their 12-under par total of 852, with San Diego State finishing runner-up seven strokes back at 859. SDSU's Xander Schauffele won medalist honors with his 11-under par total of 205 (67-71-67), with USC's Rico Hoy finishing second at 207 (71-69-67). USD senior Taylor Schmidt played solid in all three rounds and tied for third at 6-under par 210 (71-69-70).
Following Schmidt in the Torero team scoring was Alex Chiarella (T13 at 218; 71-74-73), Grant Forrest (T19 at 220; 74-73-73), Mathias Dahl (47th at 229; 71-79-79) and Skyler Finnell (T68 at 236; 82-77-77). USD Toreros playing as individuals include Joe Carlson (T39 at 226; 75-77-74), Nick Baines (T48 at 230; 76-76-78), and Mike Bosco (81st at 247; 81-86-80). Will Twitty withdrew in the first round due to injury.
The Toreros will next compete in the National Invitational Tournament at Tucson National Golf Course in Tucson, Arizona over March 14-16.
