(Tucson, AZ) - The USD men's golf team is competing at the 2014 National Invitational Tournament at the Omni Tucson National Golf Club (Catalina Course, par 72, 7094 yards) in Tucson, Arizona. USD shot a first-day team score of 290 (+2) and find themselves tied with 32nd-ranked SMU, and just two strokes back of 19th-ranked New Mexico. Third-ranked Cal got off to a hot start and is already 20-under par as a team (268) with two rounds to go. USD junior Grant Forrest turned in San Diego's best score with his 1-under par 71. Cal's Brandon Hagy is the clubhouse leader after firing an impressive 8-under par 64.

Forrest was followed by a trio of teammates who all turned in first round 73's (Alex Chiarella, Mathias Dahl and Joe Carlson). Senior Taylor Schmidt rounded out USD scorers with a 75. Tomorrow's second round will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
