(Goodyear, AZ) - USD senior Alex Ching carded a final round 71 to finish in second place with a three-round total of 203 (64-68-71) at the 2012 Desert Shootout played at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, AZ. He was edged out for medalist honors by one stroke by Wichita State's Rafael Becker who closed with a 6-under par 66 to finish at 202 (68-68-66). Wichita State shot a final round team score of 272 to overtake BYU and win the team title with a three-day score of 838. The USD Toreros tied for 4th with Kansas State at 856, while BYU (838) and Denver (850) completed the top-3.

USD scoring was rounded out by Grant Forrest (t-27 at 216; 69-73-74), Alexis Gemme-Piacente (t-36 at 218; 72-74-72), Leon Knoll (t-57 at 221; 73-75-73) and Joe Carlson (t-80th at 226; 76-73-77). USD had two individuals competing - Taylor Schmidt (t-64 at 222; 74-74-74) and Linus Vaisanen (84th at 228; 81-73-74).

Up next for the Toreros is the Wyoming Cowboy Classic that will take place April 9-10 in Scottsdale, Azrizona at the Talking Stick golf course.
