(Tempe, AZ) - The USD men's golf team is competing in the 41st annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational at ASU's Karsten Golf Course (par-71, 7,026) April 5-7 (Friday-Sunday). Eighteen teams are competing and after day one the Toreros find themselves tied for 7th overall after shooting a team score of 289 (+5). New Mexico is the clubhouse leader at 276 (-8). USD sophomore Grant Forrest carded a 3-under par 68 and sits at 5th place overall out of 100 golfers. Oregon State's Nick Chianello shot the day's low round with his 7-under par 64.

USD scoring was rounded out by Joe Carlson (T16 at 71), Linus Vaisanen (T51 at 74), Taylor Schmidt (T69 at 76) and Alexis Gemme-Piacente (T69 at 76). Torero Mike Bosco is playing as an individual and tallied an 85. Second round play begins Saturday at 7:30 am.
