(Scottsdale, AZ) - The USD men's golf team placed third out of 20 teams at the 2012 Wyoming Cowboy Classic that was held in Scottsdale, Arizona at the Talking Stick North Course (par 70; 7,133 yards). The Toreros shot a final round team score of 284 today to finish at 829 overall, just three strokes off the winning total by Kansas State. Colorado was runner-up at 828. USD freshman Alexis Gemme-Piacente turned in the team's best individual performance as he tied for 11th overall at 4-under par 206 (67-71-68). Senior Alex Ching tied for 14th overall with his 3-under par total of 207 (66-73-68). Ben Juffer of Kansas State and Mike Wuertz of Colorado State tied at 198 (-12), with Juffer winning medalist honors in a playoff.

Rounding out USD scoring was Grant Forrest (T17 at 208; 70-69-69), Leon Knoll (T74 at 217; 73-65-79) and Joe Carlson (T74 at 217; 69-68-80). Next up for the Toreros is the 2012 West Coast Conference Championships April 16-18 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister, California.
