(Bremerton, Wash.) - The USD men's golf team struggled on their final day of play at the 2014 West Coast Conference Championships being played at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington. With a final round team score of 309 (+21), the Toreros dropped to 8th place in the nine-team WCC championship event with a three-round total of 890 (+26). Sophomore Alex Chiarella
and junior Grant Forrest
both finished in the top-10 as they tied for 8th overall at 218 (+2). Chiarella turned in rounds of 71-72-75, while Forrest followed with scores of 71-68-79.
BYU, the 35th-ranked team in the country, won the team title with a three-round score of 874 (+10). Pacific's Byron Meth won medalist honors with his 8-under par 208 (66-71-71). Rounding out USD scoring was senior Joe Carlson (T31 at 228, 77-74-77), junior Mathias Dahl (T35 at 230, 76-76-78) and senior Taylor Schmidt (T35 at 230, 73-77-80).
Forrest, who has won three tournaments this season and came into the WCC Championship as the defending individual champion, was selected the 2014 West Coast Conference Player of the Year. The junior from North Berwick, Scotland, was also named to the 2013-14 All-WCC Men's Golf First Team. Torero sophomore Alex Chiarella (Makawao, HI) was named 2014 All-WCC Honorable Mention.
