(Sugar Grove, Ill.) - The USD Toreros got off to a slow start in their first round of the 2013-14 season. San Diego shot a first round team score of 321 (+33) and find themselves in 14th place. The 54-hole, three-day event is taking place at the Rich Harvest Farms Gold Club (par 71; 7,236 yards). Houston is the first day leader at 279 (-9), while Liberty is just two strokes back. Torero sophomore Alex Chiarella turned in the team's low round with 77, good for a tie for 47th. USD senior Joe Carlson, playing as an individual, also carded a 77.

Rounding out USD scoring was Grant Forrest (81, t-71st), Taylor Schmidt (81, t-71st), newcomer Will Twitty (82, t-78th) and Mathias Dahl (83, 82nd). The day's low round was turned in by David Snyder of Kentucky (67, -5) and Blair Hamilton of Houston (67, -5). The Toreros will look to move up the leader board tomorrow when they play their second round.
