USD men's golf senior Alex Ching (Honolulu, HI) competed in three tournaments during the month of March, coming away with one individual title (Fresno State Lexus Classic; 100 golfers), one runner-up performance (Desert Shootout; 94 golfers) and one top-15 showing (The Farms Collegiate Invite; 78 golfers). For his outstanding play he was named the West Coast Conference Men's Golf Player of the Month, as well as being recognized by the San Diego Hall of Champions as an amateur star of the month. Seven of his nine rounds during the month were under par with a low of 64 in the opening round of the Desert Shootout. His scoring average for the month was 70.44 (9 rounds, 634 strokes).

He joins his sister, Alina, a freshman at Pepperdine, who was named the WCC Women's Golfer of the Month for her play in March. It was Alina's second straight WCC player of the month honor.

In winning his second tournament this spring, Ching entered the final round of the Fresno State Lexus Classic tied for 4th. In the final round he fired his second consecutive 3-under par 69 to win the event by 4 strokes with a 7-under total of 209 (71-69-69). Competing on his home course at The Farms Collegiate Invitational, Ching carded an uncharacteristic 79 in his second round and would go on to tie for 14th overall at 6-over par 222 (72-79-71). At the Desert Shootout on the Palm Valley Golf Course, Ching opened with an 8-under par 64 and closed with rounds of 68 and 71 to finish at 13-under par 203, just one stroke out of first place - medalist honors were won by Rafael Baxter of Wichita State who fired a 66 in his final round.

This season he owns a team-best scoring average of 70.80 (30 rounds) with three first place finishes and eight top-10 performances. The Toreros head to Scottsdale, Arizona to compete in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic April 9-10 at Talking Stick Golf Club. That will be USD's last tune-up before they compete in the West Coast Conference Championships April 16-18 at San Juan Oaks Golf Course in Hollister, California.
