USD sophomore golfer Grant Forrest (North Berwick, Scotland) has been named an amateur Star of the Month for April by the San Diego Hall of Champions. Forrest became just the fourth Torero ever to win the West Coast Conference individual championship with his 6-under par total of 210 (74-67-69) on the Olympic Course (par 72) at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington (April 15-17). He beat out the runner-up performer by four strokes and helped the USD Toreros to a 3rd place finish (8 teams).
In USD's only other tournament during April, Forrest placed 4th (100 golfers) at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational (April 5-7) in Tempe, Arizona. Forrest finished with a three-round 7-under par total of 206 (68-68-70) on the Karsten Golf Course (par 71) and helped the Toreros to a third place finish (18 teams). For the month Forrest turned in five under par rounds out of six and averaged 69.3.
For the second straight year he was named First Team All-West Coast Conference, in addition to being named to the WCC All-Academic Team. He owns a team-best scoring average of 72.31 (32 rounds) and is now awaiting word from the NCAA for a bid into the Individual Championships in June.
