Grant Forrest, the 2014 West Coast Conference Golfer of the Year and three-time All-WCC First Team honoree, was named a Star of the Month for April by the San Diego Hall of Champions. Forrest opened the month of April by winning medalist honors at the Redhawk Invitational (April 7-8) that was played at Chambers Bay (host site for 2105 U.S. Open) in University Place, Washington. On the strength of rounds of 63 and 65 on day one, he finished the three-round tournament at 11-under par 200, three strokes better than the runner-up golfer. At the WCC Championships (April 14-16) played at Golf Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington, Forrest tied for 8th with his three-round total of 218 (+2). He fired a 4-under par 68 on day two of the three-day tournament. Forrest, who ranks 55th in the nation, averaged 69.67 for his six rounds in April.
Forrest also received news this month that he was chosen for the prestigious Palmer Cup. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played June 26-28 at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, England. Forrest becomes USD's first golfer to be selected to the Palmer Cup and he'll compete on the Europe team.
The Torero men's golf team will hear about their postseason future on Monday May 5th, 2014. The live show will air on Golf Channels "Morning Drive" at 7 a.m PST where they will determine the 81 qualifying team field. The teams will be spread out across the country between 6 regional sites with the top 5 teams from each region advancing to the National Championships. The National Championship will be hosted at Prairie Dunes CC in Hutchinson, KS May 23-28th, 2014.
