SAN DIEGO, Calif. - University of San Diego head golf coach Cory Scoggin has announced the signing of Will Twitty to a National Letter of Intent. Twitty (Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparral HS) was an All-American performer last year at South Mountain (AZ) Community College and will join the Torero golf squad as a sophomore this fall.
"I am very excited about our recent signing of Will Twitty," said Scoggin. "He has proven he can compete at the highest level in junior college and he is ready to make the transition to DI. I know he will have a positive impact on our team and be a valuable asset to our program!"
In helping South Mountain CC capture their second consecutive NJCAA Div. II National Championship in 2013, Twitty finished tied for second at Nationals by carding a three-under 285. Twitty capped off a strong freshman campaign by being named NJCAA first-team All-America, Ping first-team All-America, NJCAA All-Freshman, first-team all-conference and all-region, while also taking home the Phil Mickelson Award, given annually to the top freshman at the NJCAA Div. II level.
In addition to his numerous honors and accolades for the 2012-13 season, Twitty posted a total of six top-5 finishes during the year, including a first-place finish at the Scottsdale Invitational, where he shot seven-under (68,69). Twitty also put together a second-place showing at the Pima CC Spring Invitational.
The Toreros are coming off their sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Regionals this past season.
