Former USD golfer Kenneth McCready can't stop smiling. After all, he's advanced to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Mid-Amateur after defeating Stan Gann Jr., 3 and 1. But it isn't just his play that has the San Diego native grinning this week at the Country Club of Birmingham. The fact that he can walk and play at all instead of being confined to a wheelchair or a rehabilitation center is enough to keep his spirits high.

"Its great to see Kenny back playing at a high level," said USD head coach Cory Scoggin. "He fought his way through multiple surgeries in college to play a major role in our NCAA Championship runs and now has fought through more surgeries to become a quarterfinalist in a USGA event. Just goes to show the power of positivity along with hard work. I will always consider Kenny as one of the most positive people I have ever coached and I know he will continue to use that to his advantage over the next couple days. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see him in the finals come Thursday."
