SAN DIEGO, Calif. - USD head men's golf coach Cory Scoggin is pleased to announce that Daniel Lopez (Los Angeles, Calif.) has signed a national letter of intent and will join the Torero program for the 2014-15 school year. Lopez, a senior at Loyola High School, is a top-50 ranked recruit in California and helped his school win the CIF Southern Section Central Division Championship last spring.
"I am very excited to announce that Daniel will be joining the Torero golf program next year. From the first time I watched him play I was impressed with his talent on the course," Scoggin said. "He has ball striking abilities that I don't see that often among junior players. Daniel is also very accomplished academically and will bring a lot to our program next year."
Lopez has performed well in many tournaments across Southern California throughout his junior career. Lopez's highlights include: shooting a 66 (-6) to qualify for the Long Beach Open, finishing seventh at the L.A. Junior City Championship by shooting a -8 (69,69,71), shooting par (72,72) to finish fourth and All-League in Loyola High School's Mission League Tournament, shooting one-over-par (72,73) to finish second at the Future Collegians World Tour (La Costa, Calif.), and shooting a 73 (+1) to help his team win a CIF Division title in 2012.
