(San Diego, CA) - USD head men's golf coach Cory Scoggin is pleased to announce that Sebastian Smith (Santiago, Chile) has signed a national letter of intent and will join the Torero program for the 2013-14 school year. The 5'11", 150 lb. senior currently attends International School Nido de Aguilas High School.

"I am very excited to be part of the University of San Diego because of their strong golf program, which will help me develop as a golfer more and more," stated Sebastian Smith. "Their strong business program is a plus in all of this which gives me even more satisfaction to attend USD."

This past year Smith placed second out of 32 players at the Chilean Junior Championship with scores of 74-75-70; he tied for second out of 50 golfers at the National Federation Championship with scores of 73-71-76; he won medalist honors at the Marbella Open for Juniors with scores of 73-78-75-70; he placed 3rd overall for Juniors at the Rocas de Santo Domingo Open with scores of 74-75-71-73; and he finished second at the Cal `s State Boys Qualifier with a round of 68. He is currently ranked 6th overall for juniors in Chile, and is 10th in overall amateur rankings for Chile.

The Toreros will begin their 2013 spring schedule on February 11-12 by hosting The Farms Collegiate Invitational at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California.
