2006: Started 15 games appearing in 19 ... Had two game-winning goals (UC Riverside on Sept. 12, Gonzaga on Sept. 24) ... His third goal came in the 4-0 victory over Albany on August 27 ... Tallied two assists giving Wels eight points on the season ... Tallied 17 shots and 10 shots on goal finishing with a .588 SOG percentage.
2005:Wels made five starts and 20 appearances for the Toreros in 2005 ... Recorded game- winning goals against UC Irvine and Gonzaga as well as netting one unassisted goal against Saint Mary's ... had six shots on goal and recorded one assist for a total of 19 points ... As a redshirt sophomore, Wels will compete for playing time in the midfield.
Prior to USD: Transferred from Santa Clara University, where he competed for the Broncos as a freshman in 2003... In his first year, Wels played in 23 matches, tallying three goals and four assists... Sat out the 2004 season and transferred to USD in the spring.
Prep/Club: Graduated from Santa Margarita Catholic High School in 2003... As a senior, Wels guided his team to the 2003 CIF South Section Division I Semi-Finals and a No. 10 ranking in the country by studentsports.com... Voted the 2003 Orange County Register Boys Soccer Player of the Year... Named to the L.A. Times High School All-Star First Team... Earned team MVP honors as a sophomore and senior... Finished his career as the fifth leading scorer in school history and the second leading assists man.
Personal: Born on March 8, 1985 in Orange, Calif... Recruited by Santa Clara and Cal State Northridge... Chose USD because of the coaches and the location.
