SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of No. 13 UC Irvine on Friday night at Torero Stadium. UC Irvine (1-0-0) was able to pull away from USD (0-1-0) with a second half that featured an offensive blitz. The Anteaters outshot the Toreros 20-16 overall and 14-9 in the second half.
Cameron Iwasa tallied the first goal of the contest when he blasted a shot from near the top of the goal box that put UC Irvine up 1-0 in the 47th minute. Gor Kirakosyan followed that with an open net score on a rebound off the post in the 88th minute.
The Toreros put pressure on UC Irvine keeper Michael Breslin (1-0-0) with a number of good looks in the second half but were unable to convert their opportunities. Patrick Wallen had a game-high six shots on the night, while Conor McFadden added three for USD.
Torero keeper Michael D'Arrigo (0-1-0) was saddled with the loss despite making three saves, while Breslin also recorded three saves in the contest.
