NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Dan Delgado had a goal and an assist along with Jorge Reza scoring the game winning goal Wednesday evening at Matador Soccer Field as the Toreros downed the Cal-State Northridge Matadors 2-0.

San Diego came out after a scoreless first half and Jorge Reza netted a goal in the first ten minutes of the second period. In the 53rd minute, San Diego earned a corner kick which was received in the box by defender Cory Norris who collided in mid-air with Matador goalkeeper Michael Abalos. After a scramble for possession, Dan Delgado passed it to Reza who scored from three yards in front of the net to take a 1-0 lead.

In the 78th minute, a solid shot attempt by striker Stephen Posa was deflected by Abalos to the right side of the penalty area where Delgado gained control of the ball and fired off a shot over the goalkeeper who wasn't able to return to his feet in time lifting USD to a 2-0 lead.

The win gives the Toreros a 1-0-0 record so far in the young 2010 season. USD recorded 19 shots to the Matadors' 16 while Northridge held the edge on corner kicks 6-5.

Michael D'Arrigo held his ground in the box holding off six shots on goal tallying 90 minutes of play for USD. Stephen Posa had six shots on the night, two of which were on goal. Delgado finished the night with one goal, one assist and three shots.

San Diego takes the next few days to prepare for their home opener on Sunday, September 5th against crosstown rival San Diego State at 7:00 p.m.
