DAVIS, Calif. - Two second half goals propelled San Diego to a 2-1 comeback victory at UC Davis on Sunday afternoon.
After surrendering a goal to the Aggies (3-3) Lizandro Torres in the 65th minute, the Toreros (3-2) rallied for a pair of goals to extend its winning streak to three games.
Reuben Dass ignited the equalizer at 72:12 with a terrific individual effort down the left sideline. He took his defender all the way to the end line, made a move to cut inside, then hammered the ball toward goal. The ball took a slight deflection off a UC Davis defender and ended up in the back of the net.
Allen Luhrs picked a good time to score his first goal of the year, netting the game-winner less than 10 minutes later. Jimmy Ryan sent a cross into the box taht Lurhs stepped to near the penalty spot and hit a blistering shot to the roof of the net to give USD a 2-1 lead.
Goalkeeper Thomas Olsen was excellent in goal, making a career-high seven saves.
Olsen's biggest stop in the 84th minute when UC Davis sent in a corner kick from the right side of the field to the back post. The ball bounced around the box a bit before an Aggies striker got a shot away from eight yards out. Olsen stuck out his foot and cleared the shot away from goal to preserve the 2-1 advantage.
The Toreros defense continued its stellar play despite its shutout streak being snapped at 244:35 minutes. USD's backline kept the Aggies off the board in the first half and kept the Toreros within striking distance in the second half.
San Diego will look to extend its winning streak next weekend when plays host to Lipscomb on Friday before heading to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
