SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to No. 6 UC Santa Barbara on Friday night from Torero Stadium. Both teams played a very tight first half before the Gauchos rattled off three goals within a nine-minute span in the second half to secure the victory.
Despite a decisive 21-9 edge in shots on the night, the UCSB offense was held in check by the Toreros (2-3-0) until the 68th minute when Ema Boateng put the Gauchos (4-0-1) on the board with his goal. Josue Madueno followed with a score of his own in the 70th minute and Achille Campion added an insurance goal in the 77th minute to put the game out of reach.
USD keeper Michael D'Arrigo (2-3-0) recorded a career high nine saves in the loss, but made a number of impressive stops, including a point blank stonewalling of a penalty kick in the first half that kept the game scoreless.
UCSB's Austin Mansker (4-0-1) tallied four saves in the contest.
The Toreros look to bounce back when they host Cal State Northridge at Torero Stadium on Sept. 20th at 7:00 pm.
