SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's soccer team kept their momentum going Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout of Gonzaga at Torero Stadium. The victory gave the Toreros their third consecutive West Coast Conference victory.

Sergio Lopez notched the game-winner early on while Patrick Wallen added a penalty kick in the first half that gave USD (5-6-0, 3-1 WCC) all the offense they would need.

The Toreros wasted little time in getting on the board when Matthew Chavez sent a long pass from the left side into the box where Lopez was able to control it behind the Gonzaga defense and knock in the game's first goal in the fourth minute, giving Lopez his second score of the season.

In the 20th minute, USD had one of three shots on the day bounce off the post as Torrey DeArmas fired a ball that ricocheted of the top post and right in front of Wallen. With an easy put-back goal in his sights, Wallen was dragged down from behind by a Gonzaga defender, resulting in the penalty kick opportunity that Wallen converted to put USD up 2-0, notching Wallen's third goal of the season in the process.

The Toreros controlled the game throughout, keeping pressure on the Bulldog defense by outshooting Gonzaga (4-7-0, 0-4 WCC) 17-10 on the day and holding a 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

Zags keeper Keane Ellis tallied three saves in the game while taking the loss. Drew Ilijevski (3-1-0) picked up his third straight win in goal for USD while recording four saves.

USD's modest three-game winning streak is now their longest of the season.

The Toreros travel to Loyola Marymount on Oct. 10 for a midweek WCC matchup with kickoff slated for 3:00 pm.
