Men's Soccer Picked to Finish Third in WCC
Torrey DeArmas joined Connor Brandt on the preseason All-WCC team
Aug. 19, 2014

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD men's soccer team earned 27 points in the 2014 WCC preseason poll, putting them in a tied for third with Portland. Reigning champion Loyola Marymount was picked to finish first, earning six first place votes. Santa Clara picked up the other two first place votes and was chosen to finish second.

Senior midfielder Connor Brandt and junior forward Torrey DeArmas were represented USD on the 11-man preseason All-WCC team. Brandt, a first-team selection last year, led the Toreros in goals, assists, and points in 2013. DeArmas was a second-team pick last season after being named to the All-Freshman team in 2012. Other than LMU, the preseason favorite, the Toreros were the only school with two players on the All-WCC preseason team.

Saint Mary's was picked fifth, coming in just one point behind USD and Portland. The Gaels were followed by Gonzaga (23 points) and San Francisco (22 points). Just five points separated the five teams picked to finish third through seventh, an early indication of how competitive the conference race will be in 2014. Pacific, fielding a men's soccer team for the first time in 28 years, was chosen to finish eighth.

The Toreros return over 20 players from last year's squad and kick off the season Thursday when they scrimmage San Diego State at 7:00 p.m. at Torero Stadium.
