SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego posted a 3-0 shutout against the Huskies of Houston Baptist Sunday afternoon at Torero Stadium. Sergio Lopez, Charles Blase, and Patrick Wallen all scored in the first half for USD. "We had a lot of people that needed to step up today because of injury to some of our starters," said head coach Seamus McFadden. "However it was an ugly win for us today." San Diego improves to 3-3-1 overall on the season with the win over the Huskies. It is their second win in a row as they head into conference play coming up this weekend.

Notables: This is the first time USD and Ohio State will meet... The Buckeyes are coming off a 3-2 overtime win over Davidson at home on Sept. 2... OSU tied No. 16 Coastal Carolina 1-1 at home on Aug. 31... The Buckeyes have scored six goals from four different players so far this season.

Notables: This is the third meeting all-time between USD and HBU with the Toreros winning the first two... HBU is a member of the Great West Conference... Houston Baptist has outscored opponents 7-2 so far this season... Their seven goals have come from five different players this season... The Huskies are outshooting their opponents 62-34.

THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM: MF Dan Delgado became the third consecutive Torero to win WCC Player of the Year honors after taking home the recognition last season. He followed current teammate Patrick Wallen (2010) and Ryan Peterman (2009). Delgado tallied a total of nine points in 2011 (2g/5a) while ranking second in the WCC in assists during WCC play (5). He has led the team in assists the past two seasons.

LEAVING HIS MARK: Sr. F Patrick Wallen enters the 2012 campaign tied for seventh in USD history in career goals scored (22). Wallen had a career-high 12 goals in 2010 and scored three goals in 2011. USD's all-time leader in goals scored is Guillermo Jara, who scored 51 goals from 1992-95.

BREAKING IN: Despite missing time in 2011 due to injury, RS-Jr. GK Michael D'Arrigo is in the top-10 in three categories in the USD record book: 8th in career saves (57), 8th in both career games started in goal and games played in goal (21/23) and 9th in career shutouts (6).

LOOKING FOR AN OPENING: The 2012 Toreros are a team deep with experience as they return a total of 20 letterwinners from a year ago, including seven starters. Overall, USD returns 12 players who played in at least half of the team's 19 games in 2011. Trying to break in will be a crop of five true freshmen and four transfers, all of whom already have NCAA soccer experience under their belts. RS-Jr. D Julian Ringhof was an all-conference and all-region selection at Cal State Los Angeles, while So. MF Connor Brandt tallied four goals last season at Cal State Dominguez Hills. So. MF Sigurd Pryser played in 17 games with 13 starts last season at Div. III North Park University and So. F Keegan Smith played in 16 games at Cal Poly SLO in 2011.

ON THE SLATE: The 2012 schedule features three teams ranked in the preseason NSCAA Top-25: No. 11 UC Santa Barbara (9/14), No. 13 UC Irvine (8/24) and No. 18 Saint Mary's (9/30 & 11/9). The upcoming slate also features a matchup with Ohio State (9/7), whom the Toreros have never faced.
