SAN DIEGO, Calif. - University of San Diego redshirt sophomore forward Sergio Lopez has been named West Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. Lopez (Chula Vista, Calif. - Mater Dei HS) scored a goal in each of USD's wins this past weekend as the Toreros improved to 3-1-0 in WCC play.
Lopez notched his first goal in the 25th minute of a 4-3 win over Portland on Friday. He followed that up with the game-winner in a 2-0 shutout over Gonzaga on Sunday.
The two goals were Lopez's first of the season. This is the first player of the week honor for Lopez and he is second Torero to earn WCC player of the week recognition this season after Elijah Galbraith-Knapp won on Sept. 10.
Lopez and the Toreros travel to Loyola Marymount for a 3:00 pm kickoff on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
