Toreros Show Poise, Rally for 2-1 Win over Saint Mary's
After a sluggish first half, the Toreros (5-4-3, 2-0-0) rallied to score two second half goals to beat Saint Mary's 2-1 in front of a raucous crowd at Torero Stadium Friday evening. The Toreros are now 2-0-0 in conference play and 9-0-2 in their last 11 WCC home matches. This is the second straight conference match where the Toreros overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to win 2-1. The outshot the Gaels 12-9, with a 10-3 advantage in the second half.

• The Toreros honored 39-year head coach, Seamus McFadden, this past Sunday with a 3-1 victory against UCLA.

Aaron Frey and Djordje Babic scored a goal apiece, and Freddy Polzer created an opportunity that resulted in a Bruins own-goal to secure the win.

USD’s defense – consisting of Patric Krall, Henry Lander, Frey and Aidan Marmion – played excellent and its only blemish was a fortunate Bruins (6-6-1) rebound in the 89th minute.

PACIFIC SERIES HISTORY

USD is 2-1 all-time against the Tigers but dropped last year’s match, 1-0. The Toreros won the first two meetings by a combined score of 5-1.

SAINT MARY’S SERIES HISTORY

The Toreros are 30-10-6 all-time against Saint Mary’s and have won the past three meetings. The teams traded own goals in last year’s meeting and Djordje Babic provided the deciding strike to lead USD to victory.
