SAN DIEGO, Calif. - USD junior Connor Brandt was named West Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Monday. Brandt scored the game-winner in USD's 1-0 upset of No. 1 Cal Friday in Berkeley. In the 52nd minute, Brandt gathered a cross that had been deflected by Cal keeper Justin Taillole and fired off a quick shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net for Brandt's fourth goal of the season and helped hand Cal their first loss of the year.
This was Brandt's first-career WCC Player of the Week nod, and he's the first Torero to earn the honor this season.
The victory over Cal was the Toreros' third win over a No. 1-ranked opponent in team history. Brandt now leads the team in goals (4), assists (5), and points (13) this season.
