SAN BRUNO, Calif. - University of San Diego senior forward Patrick Wallen was named West Coast Conference Player of the Month for the month of October, as announced by the conference on Monday. Wallen (Vasteras, Sweden) scored five of his six goals during the month of October and added an assist for a total of 11 points during the month.
Wallen scored goals in five of USD's six contests during the month (all wins), including back-to-back game-winners at USF on Oct. 14 and at home against LMU on Oct. 24. He helped USD edge past Portland 4-3 on Oct. 5 with a goal in the 23rd minute. He followed that up two days later with an insurance goal on a penalty kick in the 20th minute that gave the Toreros a 2-0 victory over Gonzaga.
At USF, Wallen punched in an unassisted score in the 29th minute and assisted on the Toreros' other goal on the day that gave USD the lead they would eventually hold onto for the 2-0 shutout. His 15th minute goal at home against LMU ended up being the only score of the game as USD notched a 1-0 shutout over the Lions.
In his final game of the month, Wallen tied the game with a goal in the 56th minute that eventually led to a 2-1 come-from-behind win over USF on Oct. 26.
With his most recent goal, the 28th of his career, Wallen moved into a tie for fourth place among USD's career goal scorers. He is currently tied for the lead with six goals on the season and is second on the team with 14 points overall.
Wallen and the first-place Toreros (10-7-0, 8-2-0 WCC) are eyeing a potential postseason berth as they close out the regular season at home against Saint Mary's on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7pm and Santa Clara on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 2pm.
