Brandt's two goals help USD earn 3-3 draw at Gonzaga
SPOKANE, Wash. - The University of San Diego men's soccer team endured a wild WCC road contest at Gonzaga on Sunday afternoon and came away with a 3-3 draw. The Toreros (3-5-3, 0-2-2) were kept in the game by Connor Brandt's penalty kick goal in the 87th minute that tied it at 3-3 and forced overtime. Brandt also scored the first goal of the match on a PK in the 31st minute and assisted on Sergio Lopez's score in the 67th minute.

PORTLAND, Ore. - The USD men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss at Portland on Friday evening from Merlo Field. The Toreros (3-5-2, 0-2-1 WCC) got a goal from Julian Ringhof in the 81st minute, but the Pilots had already built up a 2-0 lead by that point in a physical contest that featured a total of seven cautions- four yellow cards for USD and two yellows and a red card for Portland.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Toreros (4-8-4, 0-5-3) return home for their final two games at Torero Stadium this season when they host Gonzaga on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 pm and Portland on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 pm. The Gonzaga Bulldogs (8-4-3, 3-2-3) split their two contests this past week, defeating Portland 2-1 on the road on Oct. 30, before falling 2-1 at home to Santa Clara on Nov. 3. Clark Phillips is second in the WCC in goals (7) so far this season, while Conner Bevans has added 4 goals and 4 assists and Nick Hamer ranks among the conference leaders with 5 assists. Ryan Caballero has played every minute in goal for the Zags this season, posting 6 shutouts. Caballero is 3rd in the WCC in saves (65) and 4th in goals against average (0.82). As a team, Gonzaga leads the conference in shots (233) and is outscoring opponents 20-13 on the year.

USD and Gonzaga battled to a 3-3 draw in their first meeting this season in Spokane on Oct. 13. The Toreros hold a decisive 23-6-2 advantage in the all-time series.

The Portland Pilots (8-8-0, 3-5-0) are coming off a pair of losses this past week, falling 2-1 at home against Gonzaga and 1-0 in overtime to Santa Clara at home. Eddie Sanchez ranks 8th in the NCAA in goals (11) this season and 12th in total points (25). Jaime Velasco has scored 5 goals and added an assist as well. Jason Dodson and Justin Baarts have split time in goal for the Pilots. Dodson leads the team with a 0.88 goals against average, 36 saves, and 3 shutouts. As a team, Portland leads the WCC in points (79) and goals (28).

Portland won the first meeting this season 2-1 in Portland on Oct. 11. The all-time series is nearly even with USD holding a slight 18-17-5 edge.

USD lost a pair of WCC road contests this past week, falling 1-0 in overtime at San Francisco and 2-1 at Saint Mary's. The Toreros dominated for nearly the entire game against the Dons, outshooting USF 12-7, but San Francisco was able to net the game-winner in the 92nd minute to down USD. Against the Gaels, the Toreros got an early goal from Keegan Smith in the 19th minute and held the lead until the 86th minute, despite playing a man down after a red card in the 8th minute to Blake Milton. SMC ended up scoring the tying goal to force overtime before knocking in the game-winner in the 98th minute.

• USD has already played nine overtime contests, the most in team history for a single season.
• The Toreros' 1-0 victory over Cal on Oct. 25 was the team's third win over a No. 1-ranked opponent in program history. Prior to that, USD had a 2-1 overtime road victory over then-No. 1 Santa Clara on Oct. 15, 1999 and a 3-0 shutout at home over then-No. 1 Portland on Nov. 6, 1992, the year USD played in the NCAA championship game.
• Jr. MF Connor Brandt was named WCC Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Oct. 28 after scoring the game-winner in USD's 1-0 victory over Cal, his first such honor of his career. He was also named to the National Team of the Week for the third time in his career.
• Sr. GK Michael D'Arrigo set a new career high with 10 saves at Gonzaga on Oct. 13. His previous career high was nine saves vs. UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 14, 2012. The last time a USD keeper recorded double-digit saves was on Oct. 15, 2000 when Justin Neerhof had 10 saves in a 2-2 double overtime draw at LMU.
• USD and Gonzaga combined for 40 shots on Oct. 13, marking a combined season-high for USD this season. The Toreros also tied their single game high with 20 shots vs. Saint Mary's at home on Oct. 20.
