SAN DIEGO, Calif. - University of San Diego sophomore midfielder Connor Brandt was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week as well as the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday. Brandt (Temecula, Calif.) scored the game-winner in USD's 2-1 win over No. 11 Tulsa this past Sunday to help the Toreros (14-8-0) advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history.
In the 67th minute at Tulsa, with the score tied 1-1, Brandt took a behind-the-back overhead pass from Patrick Wallen that set Brandt up perfectly with a one-on-one against the Tulsa keeper. Brandt was able to flip the shot over the advancing keeper into the empty net from about 25 yards out to give USD their go-ahead score.
The goal was Brandt's third in three tournament games (fourth on the season), two of which have been game winners. Last week Brandt was named Top Drawer Soccer's national Player of the Week.
Brandt and the Toreros travel to No. 3 seed Georgetown on Saturday, Dec. 1 for a 10:00 am PT kickoff in the NCAA quarterfinals.
