#28 San Diego Men's Tennis Falls To Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. - The 39th-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis upset its second higher ranked opponent in as many weeks when it knocked off No. 28 San Diego, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu. Only three days ago, the Waves edged No. 11 Cal, 4-3; Pepperdine currently owns a five-match winning streak and extends its record to 7-2 on the season. With the loss, the Toreros drop to 4-2.

The Waves once again jumped out to a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point on Tuesday as Pepperdine won at all three positions. The No. 7-ranked duo team of Calle Hansen and Pedro Rico defeated Ysern/Pongsrikul (8-4), Scott Doerner and Alexandre Herrera stomped Beuque/Das at No. 2 doubles 8-3, and Alexis Rafidison and Scott Borzenski downed Blair/Koristovic (8-6) at court No. 3.

Pepperdine came out strong in singles play and the Waves won four out of six matches. At the top, No. 31 Rico upended Ysern, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 1 singles spot, USD's Pongsrikul came up short against No. 29 Hansen (6-2, 6-1) at the second position, and Doerner took care of Beuque with ease, 6-1, 6-1, at singles No. 3. The Waves went on to win the final point at No. 5 singles when Rafidison beat Jeff Das, 6-3, 7-6. The Toreros' two points were received by Robbie Blair's win against Herrera (6-3, 7-5) and Mirza Koristovic's victory over Richard Johnson (7-5, 6-2).
