SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The 19th-ranked University of San Diego men's tennis team finally got a match in during their Bay Area road trip with a 7-0 sweep of San Francisco on Saturday afternoon from the Harbor Bay Racquet Club. USD's previous two conference matches at Saint Mary's and Santa Clara have either been cancelled or postponed due to rain.
The Toreros (13-6, 4-1 WCC) wasted no time in getting the momentum in their favor as they swept doubles play over the Dons (3-15, 1-5 WCC). USD experimented with some different doubles combinations as Patrick Pohlmann and Thibaut Visy earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 in their first time playing together this season, while Nikola Bubnic and Ciaran Fitzgerald won 7-6 (4) at No. 3 in their first action as a pair.
Each singles match was completed in two sets with the USD tallying wins across the board. No. 36 Bubnic posted a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 1 for his 10th-straight singles win, one shy of his career record set last season.
Victor Pugliese also won his fifth-consecutive contest with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5.
The Toreros resume their suspended match at Santa Clara on Sunday at 12:00 pm.
