SAN DIEGO, Calif. -The University of San Diego knocked off Saint Mary's 4-0 Thursday afternoon at the WCC Tournament. The 3rd seeded Toreros advance to tomorrow's semifinals where they will face No. 2 BYU at 12:30 p.m.

The Toreros, who were facing St. Mary's for the second match in a row, were the first on the scoreboard after earning the doubles point. Romain Kalaydjian and Uros Petronijevic got things started with an 8-6 win at the No. 2. The sophomore duo of Victor Pugliese and Ciaran Fitzgerald also won by an 8-6 score at the No. 3 to give the Toreros the 1-0 lead.

The Toreros momentum carried into singles play as they won the first three matches. Victor Puglise was the first to finish, winning 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot. Freshman Uros Petronijevic followed that with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 spot.

"Uros came in January and when you are a freshman you are going to play up and down. As you get in to the season longer and longer, you are going to go one way or another, and luckily Uros is going the right way," Head Coach Brett Masi said after the match. "He is starting to improve and starting to mature a little bit, and that's a big sign in a lot of his matches. He is starting to play smarter and a little more disciplined."

Lastly, junior captain Clarke Spinosa, who holds a No. 96 ITA singles ranking, took care of business at the No. 2 where he won 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). Spinosa and Petronijevic have now both won seven singles matches in a row.

The Toreros will face BYU (20-5, 7-1) in the semifinals tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. USD fell to the Cougar 4-3 on the road earlier this season.

"Doubles point is going to be huge tomorrow. They are a very good doubles team, and we have to come out and play a little bit better than we did today at the start," Masi said. "One thing that is on our side tomorrow is we get to play outdoors at sea level. The last time we played up there, we were playing in tough conditions indoors at high altitude, which was the only match we played in that condition all year. BYU was more used to it and now we are more on our home turf. Being only three miles away I expect mother nature to be on our side. The guys, with revenge on their minds, are ready for it."
