NAPA, Calif. - San Diego wrapped up its first weekend of play with a championship finish Sunday at the Napa Valley Silverado Collegiate Invitational.

The Toreros were named co-champions after going 2-2 in singles and 1-1 in doubles on the final day of competition.

"Overall, it was a wonderful weekend for the group," said head coach Ryan Keckley. "The host families were incredible and the club was so generous with their facilities and resources. We felt comfortable and at home all weekend in Napa."

USD finished the weekend with an 8-4 record in singles and a 5-1 record in doubles.

The Toreros were paced by Nico Borter who went undefeated in singles and doubles matches this weekend. Gui Osorio won his singles match on Sunday (6-4, 6-2) to finish the weekend 2-1.

"We competed well again today in singles," said Keckley. "Congrats to Nico for his 6-0 record. This was a weekend he had been waiting for since September 2016. I couldn't be happier for him considering the amount of work he has put into his game this past year."

Borter and Pratt Keerasuntonpong defeated Oklahoma State's Brady Draheim and Mathieu Scaglia in doubles play.

"Our doubles came on nicely over the course of the weekend," said Keckley. "I was extremely pleased to see our doubles so on-point over the past three days."

USD will look to carry its momentum into next weekend's tournament in Midland, Texas.

"We are moving in the right direction and I look forward to seeing the rest of the lot compete this upcoming weekend in Texas," added Keckley.

NAPA, Calif. - San Diego continued its strong play Saturday, going 3-1 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles play for the second straight day.

"It was another solid day for us overall," said head coach Ryan Keckley. "We weren't quite as sharp to start the doubles action today but we played well in big moments against UNLV. We need to be more disciplined with our choices and keep things simple with our targets."

"Our game plan is there, we just need to trust our instincts."

Joel Gamerov, Nico Borter and Pratt Keerasuntonpong won their singles matches and the quartet combined to win both doubles matches for the second consecutive day.

"In singles, I thought we handled our emotions very well," said Keckley. "We preach professionalism on a daily basis to this group and that helped us come away with a few more victories."

The Toreros will look to continue its momentum as it wraps up tournament play on Sunday.

The Toreros went 3-1 in singles play against California and won both of its doubles matches against Dartmouth.

"What a great way to kick off the season," said head coach Ryan Keckley. "With only one day of practice, it was evident these boys came back in shape and prepared to compete. We were sharp in doubles and carried the momentum into singles to start the season off strong."

Gui Osorio, Joel Gamerov and Nico Borter made quick work of their opponents, winning their matches in straight sets.

Osorio and Gamerov teamed up to take down Dartmouth's Charlie Broom and Max Fliegner in doubles play, 8-4. Borter and Pratt Keerasuntonpong earned a 8-7 (5) victory against David Horneffer and Ciro Riccardi.

"Gui and Joel had a solid win against Dartmouth's No. 1 team from last year who ended last season ranked in doubles," said Keckley. "Congrats to Nico as well who got his first win in both singles and doubles as a Torero."

USD continues play in Napa on Saturday before concluding the tournament on Sunday.
