Gamerov and Osorio took on Johan Joenhagen and Ryan Marker but were unable to finish the weekend with a win, falling 6-3.
“It was a great event overall for the Toreros,” said head coach Ryan Keckley. “We are coming home with some focus points to work toward in the coming weeks of practice.”
The Toreros finished the weekend with a 2-3 singles record and a 1-2 doubles mark.
“It has been a busy three weeks of competition for this crew and I think we are all looking forward to a few weeks of hard practices to get back to the fundamentals,” said Keckley.
USD will have next weekend off before it continues its fall season with the San Diego State Tournament Oct. 6-8.

SAN FRANCISCO – Gui Osorio defeated Boise State’s Jack Heslin to highlight the opening day of play for San Diego at the Battle of the Bay.
Osorio made quick work of Heslin, winning 6-1, 6-3, to advance to the Round of 16 Saturday against Georgia’s Nathan Ponwith.
“We came here for the competition and opportunities, and that is exactly what we got the first day at the Battle of the Bay,” said head coach Ryan Keckley. “We are seeing that we can play at that next level, but we need to take the necessary steps forward to make it happen. Overall, it was a good start to the weekend and I am excited about the chances that await us tomorrow."
Joel Gamerov also competed Friday but dropped his match against Jack Jaede of USC (6-2, 2-6, 6-1). Jaede is currently ranked No. 82 in the country.
The duo also teamed up for doubles play but dropped an 8-4 decision against TCU’s Alastair Gray and Alexander Rybakov.
“We faced two top doubles players from TCU who are both who are preseason ranked in the ITA doubles rankings and had an abundant amount of chances, but unfortunately couldn't execute when it mattered."
Play continues for Osorio on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. (PT), while Gamerov gets going at noon.
