TULSA, Okla. - Sophomore Uros Petronijevic finally met his match Tuesday afternoon when he fell to Notre Dame's Quentin Monaghan 7-5, 6-4 in the second round of the ITA Singles All-American Qualifiers.
Petronijevic, who defeated the No. 1 seeded Sebastian Stiefelmeyer of Louisville in the first round yesterday, had won five of his six matches so far in the Fall season before falling to the 98th ranked Monaghan.
It was a busy day for Petronijevic, who competed in two doubles matches before earning his singles loss. Along with senior Clarke Spinosa, they knocked off Nebraska's Dusty Boyer and Beau Treyz 8-2 in the first round of the qualifiers.
After a short break, the duo returned to the courts to face off against Tulsa's Japie De Klerk and Matt Kirby where the fell 8-5 in the second round.
Romain Kalaydjian, who lost in the first round of singles yesterday, bounced back for a big 6-3, 7-6 (8) win over 50th ranked Daniel Leitner of South Alabama. Kalaydjian will continue play tomorrow in the second round of the consolation singles bracket against the winner of Miami's Wilfredo Gonzalez and USC's Eric Johnson.
