LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's tennis team continued play at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday at UCLA. Romain Kalaydjian and Victor Pugliese each won their first-round matches in the singles main draw, while rain forced two USD singles matches to be postponed as well as washed out qualifying doubles play for the day.

Kalaydjian continued his strong play this fall by posting a 6-3, 6-1 win over Pepperdine's Damien Gryzelko to advance to the main draw round of 16. Likewise, Pugliese topped Ben Eger of Azusa Pacific 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 to move on as well.

Ciaran Fitzgerald was unable to advance past the first round of the main draw after he lost to UCLA's Warren Hardie 6-3, 6-2. Jakob Karnopp also suffered a first-round defeat when he fell to John Pearce of BYU by a score of 6-0, 6-2.

Thibaut Visy and Clarke Spinosa each had their opening-round singles contests postponed when the rain moved in. They will pick up with their matches on Friday. Qualifying doubles action is slated to begin on Friday as well.
