Dean Jackson

May 6, 2009

(San Diego) - USD sophomore Dean Jackson (Soest, Germany) went 4-0 at the No. 1 singles position during the month of April, including a perfect 3-0 at the WCC Championships, to earn his second straight WCC Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Month honor. In San Diego's WCC Tournament championship match against Pepperdine, Jackson defeated WCC Player of the Year and No. 44-ranked Omar Altmann in straight sets (6-2, 7-5).

Jackson is now ranked No. 52 in the country and will take a seven-match win streak into the NCAA Division I Singles Championships beginning May 20th in College Station, Texas. This past season he compiled an overall singles record of 19-7, and in the recently completed spring dual-match slate, he combined for a 17-4 mark (16-4 at No. 1 singles).

He is making his second straight post-season appearance at the NCAA Championships, and he earned his second straight All-West Coast Conference First Team Singles honor. In 2008 Jackson was selected as an alternate for the NCAA Individual Championships, and he eventually made it into the 64-player draw. Ranked 63rd in the nation, he gave No. 7 seed, and 8th-ranked Lars Poerschke of Baylor, a competitive match before falling 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
