Toreros Named No. 1 Mid-Major Recruiting Class
June 5, 2017

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The men's tennis program's 2017 recruiting class was named the No. 1 class among mid-major colleges according to tennisrecruiting.net. They rank No. 17 nationally with three recruits coming from across the globe.

Alexander Reyna is a senior recruit from Corona Del Mar, California, who will be joining the team in the fall. Reyna holds a national ranking of 227, he is No. 61 in the Southwest and No. 54 in California.

David Norfelt is from Gothenburg, Sweden and will be coming to the USD campus in January 2018. He is ranked No. 2 in Sweden among all 1998 Boys. He is also ranked No. 17 in all of Sweden in all age groups. He has competed twice in the prestigious European Championship tournament for Sweden as well as represented Sweden in the World Junior Davis Cup in Mexico.

August Holmgren is the second recruit coming from across the water. Holgrem is from Espergærde, Denmark and ranked as high as No.1 in the Danish Junior's Rankings. He ranked No. 4 in the Danish Men's Rankings and was the 83rd ranked junior in the world according to the International Tennis Federation.

These three recruits have shot San Diego to the top of the rankings for recruiting classes among mid-major colleges and placed them No. 17 nationally. These rankings come after a record breaking season for the Toreros.

San Diego made school history by winning their fourth consecutive West Coast Conference Championship this year. The team made its seventh straight NCAA appearance with the leadership of second year Head Coach Ryan Keckley and seniors Filip Vittek and Joshua Page. The team ended the season ranked No. 47.

Graduated seniors Page and Vittek competed as a pair in the No. 1 spot for doubles all season. They both helped clinch wins throughout the season and build the confidence of their young teammates. With two empty spots and three strong recruits coming in, the Toreros won't skip a beat as they strive to be the No. 1 team in the West Coast Conference for the fifth year in a row.
