USD junior All-America Pierrick Ysern (Paris, France) the 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis National Runner-up, was recently recognized by the San Diego Hall of Champions as an Amatuer Star of the Month for May. During the month of May, Ysern finished 5-1 at the championships where he was dealt a 6-2, 7-6 (6) loss in the title match to Baylor's Benedikt Dorsch, the tourney's top seed. Ysern turned in a fabulous junior campaign. In addition to reaching the championship match at the Super Bowl of college tennis, he also advanced to the quarters of the National Indoors, and the semifinals of the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Champion- ships. He closed out this season with an overall singles mark of 26-7.

In reaching the championship match, Ysern defeated 57th ranked Raian Luchici of North Carolina in the first round (6-2, 2-6, 6-2); 30th ranked Somdev Dewarman of Virginia in the 2nd round (6-4, 6-1); 8th ranked Ryler DeHeart of Illinois in the Sweet Sixteen (6-2, 7-6); 4th ranked Catalin Gard of Ole Miss in the Quarters (7-6, 6-0); and 37th ranked Izak van der Merwe of Old Dominion in the semifinals (6-4, 6-4).
