Max Pedrotti Sets USD 8k Record

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - The USD cross-country teams kicked up dust Saturday morning at the Bronco Invitational. Juniors Max Pedrotti (24:46) and Liam Burke (24:57) set the pace for the day by shattering the previous 8k school record of 25:10, crossing the finish line in 55th and 63rd overall. The men's team finished in 12th (out of 18 teams), while the women took fifth out of 20 teams. On the day, 19 personal bests were set.

Strong performances by the rising freshman, Patrick Bruce, who was USD's third finisher at 25:32. Senior Matthew Smith following shortly after with a time of 25:35. Sophomore Mitch Manis finished fourth for the men with a time of 25:51, and junior and senior T.J. Hodges and Matt Beasley crossed together as the sixth and seventh runners for the team at 26:17. An open race performance from freshman Matt Sickman with a personal record of 27:05 proved further depth for the team.

The Women's 6k invite race was led by senior Andrea Hughes with a personal record of 21:04 and placing 17th overall. The team finished fifth overall. Senior Lindsay Benster followed after with a time of 21:13 taking a 25th place finish overall. Freshman Cassidy Kuhn finished in third for USD and 50th overall clocking in at 21:45, and was followed by senior Ashley Mitchell at 21:47. Senior Sarah Kapple and junior Natalie North-Cole closed the pack with times of 21:54 and 22:51.


 

 

Leading the 6k open race for USD was thriving freshman Hope McLaughlin with a time of 21:52 and a ninth place overall finish. Racing with her was sophomore Zani Moore (22:09), junior Mary Tenuta (22:59) and Hailey Purtzer (23:21).

The Toreros' next race is the WCC Championships October 28 on their home course a Mission Bay.
