Sunnyvale, CA - The University of San Diego raced at Baylands Park in the region that is home to many of the world's largest technology corporations and startups. They buzzed with the same radiant energy that builds chips to post new personal bests and finishing team scores of 11th for the women and 15th for men.

Gillian Gorelik led the charge on the women's side by smashing the USD all-time 6km record that was set last year by Julia Lipson. Gorelik finished 18th out of a field of over 200 runners.

"I knew I was geared to run well and have been training so hard with my team to do so," said Gorelik. "It was a race that I focused on nothing more than having fun and getting and maintaining my racing spirit."

"Our team showed up to race, and as a coach one cannot get greedy but savor the results," said Head Coach Will Guarino. "There were so many teams from throughout the country, and some from Canada, and of course we raced against several WCC schools. We loved the racing atmosphere that was put on by Santa Clara. Baylands course is also next year's home to the WCC Championship and we wanted to give those younger racers the opportunity to see this course and know every inch of it as research for next year. We want to reduce the competitive home course advantage as much as possible."

The men were led by Adam Bodine, who also broke the freshmen record that was set last year by Malik Hayes.

"It was positive step to see Matt Beasley and Ryan Lesansee also challenge the mark," said captain Justin Brown-Pinizzoto.

This was the Toreros' last tune-up race for what will look to be a barn burner in a couple of weeks at Malibu. From the look of the times, it appears that the team is well-prepared to race their hearts out at the WCC Championships in a couple of weeks.
