SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego, Department of Athletics will host the 9th annual Torero Networking Night (internship/job fair) for student athletes on Wednesday, April 2nd from 5:30-8:00 p.m. in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Each year, numerous organizations seeking to employ USD student athletes from diverse disciplines attend Torero Networking Night. All student athletes are encouraged to attend and explore the wide variety of volunteer, internship and full-time employment opportunities that are represented.
The following were some of the companies government agencies, and non-profit organizations attended and recruited while at Torero Networking Night in 2013: The CIA, FBI, DEA, Xerox, Wells Fargo, Clear Channel Media & Entertainment, Frito Lay, Inc., Target, TaylorMade Golf Company, Verizon Wireless, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, California State Board of Equalization, San Diego County Sheriff's Department, Port of San Diego and the Mission Valley-YMCA.
Torero Networking Night is a one-of-kind chance to network with employers and explore numerous careers, make personal contacts, gather information, demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively and interview with employers.
The event also provides an opportunity for employer representatives to share information about career opportunities, new programs and services within their company. Interviews are arranged to provide student athletes with a chance to earn a second interview with employers as the result of a favorable response during networking/interviewing.
Ideally, the outcome is to secure an internship/job position. At the very least, it is a chance for participants to practice and refine their interviewing skills. The networking night begins with a traditional open career fair and then transitions to "Five - 12 Minute" interviews among employers and student athletes in attendance.
The University of San Diego's curriculum teaches students to navigate a diverse collection of disciplines, perspectives, and people. This diversity not only opens their mind but also expands their future horizons, preparing them for the range of careers that they will have in a lifetime. Through specific networking events, career workshops, resume writing services and individual career counseling, Torero Career Development programs are intended to prepare student athletes for the world of work that awaits them upon graduation. Career activities are aimed at developing not just short-term internship and employment prospects, but also long-term career success in a variety of fields for USD graduates.
NOTE: Registration is required. There is no charge to attend and parking is free.
