LOS ANGELES – Aubrey Ward-El scored a team-high 21 points to lead San Diego to a, 60-54, victory at Loyola Marymount on Saturday afternoon.

With the score knotted at 52-52, Madison Pollock converted a layup with 1:26 to play to give the Toreros (10-7, 3-3 WCC) a lead it would not relinquish. USD closed the game on an 8-2 run to seal the victory.

USD shot well from the field at 48 percent, despite going 0 for 7 from 3-point range. Ward-El paced the team on 8 for 15 shooting from the field in 39 minutes. Maya Hood chipped in 14 points, while Myah Pace added nine and Pollock had eight.

The Toreros out-rebounded the Lions (11-6, 3-3 WCC), 42-32. Pace pulled down 11 boards while Hood grabbed nine. Hood has 867 career rebounds and is one rebound shy of tying Amber Sprague (2004-09) for the most career rebounds in program history.

Pace had an excellent game overall and tied Ana Ramos for the team high with five assists to go along with her nine points and 11 rebounds.

USD and LMU traded leads 11 times throughout the contest and the game was tied five times.

The Toreros found themselves in an early hole after the Lions closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 15-11 lead.

USD bounced back quickly, and went on a 10-2 run to start the second quarter and take a 21-17 lead. The Toreros shot 43 percent in the first half and went into halftime with a, 27-24, advantage.

USD stretched its lead to five twice early in the third quarter but LMU battled back to take a 36-35 lead with 4:14 remaining in the period. The Lions were able to hold onto their lead and took a 43-42 advantage into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Toreros, which outscored LMU, 18-11. A layup by Pollock with 1:26 remaining, followed by a difficult turnaround jumper by Hood with 37.6 seconds on the clock put the game out of reach for the Lions.

USD will look to continue its momentum next week when it travels to Portland on Thursday and returns home against BYU on Saturday.
