SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's basketball team outscored Santa Clara University 44-18 in the second half to pull away and claim a 72-44 West Coast Conference win Saturday afternoon at the Leavey Center.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 19-5 overall, move to 8-5 in the WCC, snapped a three-game losing streak, and have claimed their first WCC road win of the season. With the loss, the Broncos fall to 7-17 overall and 3-9 in the WCC.

San Diego didn't let up, as they then put together a 16-6 run to grab a 21-point lead at 61-40 with 4:13 to go, and they never looked back as they cruised their way to a 72-44 win.

In the first half, it was a back and forth affair in the early going. Then with USD leading 10-9, an Ederaine jumper sparked an 11-0 Torero run to give USD a 12-point lead at 21-9 with 7:32 to go. The Broncos then responded with a 15-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 24-23 lead with 2:27 to go. The two teams then began to trade baskets for the remainder of the frame, with USD managing to take a 2-point lead into the break.

San Diego will return to action on Thursday, as they host first place and No. 15 Gonzaga University in a 6 p.m. game inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion. This is the Play-4-Kay game, where USD will be raising money for the battle against breast cancer.
