SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Behind double-doubles from both Katelyn McDaniel and Maya Hood, the University of San Diego women's basketball team (16-8, 8-4 WCC) cruised to a 71-50 West Coast Conference win over Pepperdine University (4-18, 1-10 WCC) Monday evening at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

McDaniel led all scorers with 18 points, on 6-of 12 shooting fro the field, while pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds, and she dished out a game-high six assists. Hood on the other hand, had 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, and also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Felicia Wijenberg was the third Torero in double figures, as she recorded 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, and she recorded four rebounds. As a team, USD shot .500 from the field and out rebounded the Waves 46-31.

In the first half, The Toreros came out firing on all cylinders, as a pair of Wijenberg free throws ignited a 6-0 run over the first 2:27 of action, forcing the Waves into a timeout. USD continued to keep the pedal to the medal and would then go on a 11-6 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game at 17-6 on a McDaniel jumper with 13:58 to go.

Pepperdine then managed to score the next five points to pull back to within six, but that is as close as they would get for the remainder of the game, as a Hood lay-up then sparked a 8-2 San Diego run to give USD back the momentum and a 25-13 lead with 11:01 to go. USD would then gradually begin to pull further and further ahead and led by as many at 20 in the first half, before settling for an 18-point lead at the break.

In the second half, USD would quickly build back up a 20-point lead on a McDaniel free throw with 14:17 to go, and never looked back. The Toreros completely dominated the second half of play and led by as many as 30 on a Malina Hood lay-up with 4:27 to go. USD then cruised their way too a 71-50 victory to complete a season sweep of the Waves and hand Pepperdine their ninth consecutive loss.

For the Waves, Ea Shoushtari led the scoring effort with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, and she pulled down six rebounds. As a team, the Waves shot .345 from the field.

The Toreros will return to action on Thursday, as they head up to Los Angeles for a 7 p.m. game against Loyola Marymount University.
