SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Senior point guard Dominique Conners of the University of San Diego women's basketball team has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday Morning. This is Conner's first player of the Week honor this season.
Conners, a 5-10 guard from Oceanside, Calif., scored a team-best 20 points and grabbed five rebounds in a 77-60 win at Saint Mary's College this past Saturday, San Diego's only game of the week. Conners also dished out four assists and had two steals. This marked the fifth game this season that Conners has scored 20 or more points and it was also the fourth consecutive game that Conners has scored in double figures. For the season, Conners leads the Toreros with 16.2 points-per-game average.
With the win over the Gaels, USD successfully snapped a 7-game winning streak for SMC, as well as snapping a five-game losing streak to the Gaels, while knocking SMC out of first place in the WCC standings. USD is now 10-3 overall, marking the second best start in program history, only trailing the 2006-07 team, also coached by Cindy Fisher.
The Toreros will look to match the best start in program history as they return to action tonight at 7 p.m. with a road game at Santa Clara University.
